■Japanese Full Immersion Class

Maria’s Babies Society proudly introduces its new one-of-a-kind Japanese Immersion Class for non-Japanese children (ages 1?3) being raised in Japan. Offered from September 2010, this class gives children from non-Japanese families a head start on the path to learning Japanese and gaining a solid understanding of Japanese culture by immersing them in it for 4?5 full days per week.

Other Highlights:

1) MBS boasts a finely-tuned balance of music and language education. Musical training heightens aural sensitivity in young children while also exposing them to the concept of decoding meaning from symbols. These are also two of the most fundamental skills needed for language acquisition. It is for this reason that musical training in tandem with linguistic exposure results in higher overall communicative and expressive ability in young children.

2) In order to achieve the amazing results of early childhood musical training, children must be immersed in a consistent and high-quality musical environment from a very young age. They must live a “musical lifestyle”, and MBS provides just that. Children learn solfege, take individual violin lessons, participate in eurhythmics classes and listen daily to live mini-concerts by professional musicians performing on a variety of instruments.

3) The curriculum for the new Japanese Immersion Class is unique in that it will follow the traditional seasonal Japanese calendar (旧暦ky?reki), which starts on 4th February and is divided into 24 solar terms (節気sekki), each of which refers to a different natural phenomenon representing seasonal change. Following this calendar and being exposed to the rich body of poetry associated with it will be a precious opportunity for non-Japanese children to better understand the way Japanese people perceive and enjoy nature and its seasonal changes.
